Flavored Sugar with Essential Oil

Food and Nutrition | 0 comments

There are so many little ways I weave essential oils into my everyday rhythm—slow evenings unwinding, keeping bugs at bay, caring for my skin and hair, tending to small family mishaps, even freshening up the house. They’ve become part of my home language. And one of my favorite, most unexpected rituals? Bringing them into the kitchen.

Cooking with essential oils feels almost alchemical. Just a hint can transform something simple into something special. Take flavored sugar, for example—because the flavor is so vibrant, a little goes a long way. Less sugar, more soul. Stir it into tea or coffee, sprinkle it over warm oatmeal or toast, swirl it into lemonade, or finish off a dessert with a whisper of citrus or spice. It’s an easy, beautiful way to add a bit of magic to the everyday.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (I love natural cane turbinado for its texture and warmth)
  • 1–3 drops Wild Orange, Tangerine, Lemon, Grapefruit, or Lime essential oil*
  • or 1 toothpick swirl of Cassia or Cinnamon Bark essential oil*

How to use
Blend the sugar and essential oil well, then let your imagination lead the way. Enjoy with tea, coffee, oatmeal, lemonade, toast, and desserts. Be creative!

Simple. Intentional. Delicious.

*A gentle note: not all essential oils are meant for cooking. I use oils that are clearly labeled for internal use—especially citrus, herbs, and spices—and sourced with purity in mind.
