Roller Ball Blends for Sleep

A Nighttime Ritual for Your Dreaming and Rest
Night has its own language.
Dim lights. Slow breaths. The quiet unraveling of the day.
While diffusers are beautiful for winding down at home, sometimes sleep rituals need to travel—with us to unfamiliar beds, long days, or restless evenings when stillness feels just out of reach. That’s where roller ball blends come in. Small, portable, and deeply personal, they offer comfort through both touch and scent.
Roller balls allow essential oils to be experienced aromatically and topically—rolled gently onto pulse points, the bottoms of feet, or wrists as you settle in for the night. The act itself becomes part of the ritual: pause, breathe, apply, rest.

Lavender often anchors sleep blends, long cherished for its calming nature and versatility. When paired with other grounding oils—like Frankincense, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Copaiba, Marjoram, or Vetiver—the result feels layered and intentional, meeting the body and mind where they are. Some nights call for deep calm, others for emotional release, and sometimes simply variety itself keeps the ritual feeling alive.
Pure essential oils are very potent and concentrated, so a little goes a long way. With pure essential oils and topical use, always remember the rule of thumb that ‘less is more’. Combining essential oils with Fractionated Coconut Oil, a carrier oil, is recommended to minimize any potential skin sensitivity. And, using a carrier oil actually helps the oils work better by maximizing the duration of the effects.
Blended with fractionated coconut oil, these sleep rollers are gentle, effective, and easy to customize. Less is more. A few mindful swipes are often all that’s needed to signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to soften, exhale, and let go.
Sleep doesn’t always arrive the same way each night. Roller ball blends offer flexibility, intuition, and a sense of comfort—reminding you that rest can be invited, not forced.
Here are a few essential oil roller ball blends for sleep to get started. Combine one of these blends in a roller ball, then fill the rest of the way with Fractionated Coconut Oil, and apply to the bottoms of your feet and/or your pulse points at bedtime:
- 20 drops Lavender
- 10 drops Frankincense
- Fractionated Coconut Oil
Blend #2:
- 20 drops Roman Chamomile
- 10 drops Vetiver
- Fractionated Coconut Oil
Blend #3:
- 15 drops Lavender
- 5 drops Roman Chamomile
- 5 drops Cedarwood
- 5 drops Bergamot
- Fractionated Coconut Oil
These are a few blends to inspire you and help you get started, but always remember you can experiment on your own and find out what works best for you personally. We are all different and there are various factors behind our inability to relax and rest. Which oils do you have on hand, and which oils do you like best? Be creative and find your unique solution. What works best for you might be different than what works best for your partner or children.
My Special Tip: I usually try to figure out if there is an emotional component and use an oil targeted to helping ease what is troubling in addition to using oils for their general calming properties. For example, Marjoram is an amazing oil to combine with Lavender for easing a troubled mind and putting the stresses of the day to rest.
