Wood Polish with Essential Oils

Make It Yourself

I have the piano I learned to play on when I was a little kid and a large dining room table that takes special attention to clean (since I have my own kid, the table gets messy with all sorts of food and craft projects).  I prefer the make-it-yourself route whenever possible, and it is easy to do when you keep a few staples on hand.

There is no need to use an aerosol wood polish with chemicals you don't understand just to care for your pretty furniture.  You can make your own wood polish very easily with just a few simple, natural ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 5 drops Arborvitae*
  • 5 drops Lemon

*If you don't have Arborvitae, just use 10 drops of Lemon instead of 5 drops of each.  More people tend to have Lemon readily available, especially since it comes in most of the essential oil kits.

Instructions: Combine ingredients in a 4 ounce glass spray bottle.  Shake bottle gently before each use.  Apply the wood polish to a cloth, not directly on the wood surface, then use the cloth to clean.

Tip: This formula will clean and disinfect without damaging finishes, but anytime you are cleaning carpets or furniture with a new product, it is a good idea to do a spot check first, just to be sure you are pleased with the result.
